“Love is our essential nutrient. Without it, life has little meaning. It’s the best thing we have to give and the most valuable thing we receive. It’s worthy of all the hullabaloo.”
-Cheryl Strayed.

Episode 40.

“I understood nothing really, about love, only that it was the most devastating, most spectacular, most desirable force on earth. It was far too powerful a thing to leave sleeping at an in-between place… I would leave this place, hungry to love and to be loved, even if it brought me to my knees, again and again.” -Clara Wood

Orgasmic.

Love.

Depth.

Orgasmic. Get your head out of the gutter...the word doesn’t necessarily relate to sex. But we can start there... what makes orgasm so vital, so inexorable, so compulsory? How do we relate to that word, that concept? The allure, the potency... It must be compelling beyond the account of “it feels good.”…

Something labeled “orgasmic” is set apart from other descriptors; in its power to take us out of our head. It defines a force that captivates presence. It is a momentary pause- a space between, where we can actually be. There is the French translation of orgasm to “petit muerte”, meaning little death. Why death related to orgasm? Because it is a release from our attachment to default patterns of our mind; release from our attachment to incessant cyclical rehashing of the past and rehearsing for the future. A momentary death of our grappling to get somewhere, to do something... A momentary death of our urge to fix, solve, avoid, escape, mask, sabotage, fight, cling, push, cope….

A release.

Orgasmic.

In that little momentary death, we are granted a letting go, allowing for a euphoric, emotive, calm fervor.

An enveloping embrace- orgasmic in regulating a nervous system so frazzled in a hypervigilant state…

A soothing and gentle massage- orgasmic in releasing tension bound so deep that it is woven, stitched, and threaded into our very organs, tissues, and cells...

An exhilarating run at sunrise on the beach- orgasmic in releasing endorphins that move more than our feet to each pace on the sand...

A connecting gaze- orgasmic in seeing depth- reaching into the vulnerability and openness of another...

A synchronized breath- orgasmic in aligning, attuning, balancing the soul…

An impassioned song - orgasmic in piercing open the heart to intoxicate, transport, magnify, evoke, embody…

Whatever moves you to orgasmic… allow it to fill your senses, fuel your passions, invigorate your soul, inspire your words, animate your life…

I will write the quote again; the orgasmic words; a description of love as the pivot point of life; love as the hinge upon which life swings

So, maybe we do what we do in the name of this relentless love.
Maybe something makes us wake up and understand that love is worth the flattening ache of grief.
That love is both the softest cradle and the sharpest edge of what makes life real.
All human love will certainly have an end.
But in the end, it is love that makes life worthwhile.
This is orgasmic.

"Look past your thoughts so you can drink the pure nectar of this moment"
-Rumi

“For the first time in my life I saw the truth as it is set into song by so many poets, proclaimed as the final wisdom by so many thinkers. The truth - that Love is the ultimate and highest goal to which man can aspire. Then I grasped the meaning of the greatest secret that human poetry and human thought and belief have to impart: The salvation of man is through love and in love.”
-Viktor E. Frankl, Man's Search for Meaning

“We lose ourselves in the things we love. We find ourselves there too.”

“The soul should always stand ajar, ready to welcome the ecstatic experience”

-Emily Dickinson
